Crystal Cove Tide Pools

Inspired by a recent newsletter email from Fun Orange County Parks about minus tides and the best beaches for tidepools, my family and I visited Crystal Cove State Beach recently. I checked the times for when the low tide would occur and found out it would be at 4 pm which was perfect! Not only would we get to see the tide pools, but it would be at golden hour, which is such a wonderful time to take photos.

My family made our way down the very steep stairs towards the beach and got our first glimpses at the ocean. It was such a beautiful day! We are definitely lucky to live in Southern California where we have sunny days in January.

Some of the animals we found included small crabs, California mussels, kelp snails, and sea anemones. My son and daugther both enjoyed examining the anemones closer and finding interesting sea shells.

My son brought his new camera along and was so adventurous to get the best shot. I highly recommend going at low tide with your family! I can’t wait to do it again and discover more animals along the beach.
